Our News


Muses will be hosting three hours of code events during the CSEdWeek of 2016. The topics of these Hours of code will be: "One hour as a Web Developer", "Build your first Android App" and "Build your Personal Website". Our aim is to involve as many people into the "art of programming" thus the three hours of code are open to all students of the college. For more information click here


Currently Muses are working on our activities for the CSEdWeek that will be held from the 5th until the 11th of December. More specific information about the events will follow in the upcoming days. Keep visiting our website :).


The first movie night will be held on Monday 28.11.2016. The event is open to students from all departments and aims in encouraging debate related to Computing. More information will follow soon.


Starting from this week the Java Cafe will be held every Wednesday from 16:00 to 18:00. We are very excited to be working along our faculty sponsor Dr. Eleftherakis in helping first level students in understanding computer science and appreciating its value.


A PowerPoint presentation was presented to the new students of City College about ACM-W welcoming them to City College and asking to join ACM and ACM-W.


The 15th Students' Spring Symposium took place today at the main campus of City College in Thessaloniki. The Symposium of this year was part of the "Young Researchers' Day". Members of the ACM-W muses are happy to have been part of this event as members of the organising teams of the Symposium.


In honour of the CSEDWeek that took place last week, the ACM-W Muses organised an Hour of Code in CITY College. The students that participated learnt how to code a simple javascript animation in a one-hour interactive tutorial! The participating students were of many different departments, mixed genders and filled up the whole lab, something we Muses loved to see! Thank you to all of you who attended!


Many excellent and talented researchers presented their posters in womENcourage2015 poster session. High quality work and a lot of enthusiasm as in every ACM-W Europe event. Alexandra Cristina Pătraşcu was on of them. Acm-W Muses, City College were represented with a poster once more in a womENcourage conference.


Muses will be presenting at the 14th Students' Spring Symposium that will take place tomorrow at City College. The topic of the presentation will be "Women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM)". You can join in and come see the presentations or present your own topic!


Today Muses had the honor to present about "Women and Men working together to promote Women in Computer Science" at the inspiring event organised by ACM-W Student Chapter AUTH. We thank them for inviting us, and we are glad to have met so many ambitious ladies and gentlemen that we hope to collaborate with in the future!


Elections for the academic year 2014-2015 were held today. Congratulations to all!


"Dr. George Eleftherakis, faculty sponsor of Muses ACM-W City College and Chair of the ACM′s Council of European Chapter Leaders (CECL) is going to give a presentation in the University of Sheffield entitled "Women in Computer Science" (Click to view poster). During the presentation he is going to share his experience running an ACM-W Student Chapter. The presentation aims to start a vivid discussion with attending staff and students, aiming to answer several questions related to this issue.


Muses ACM-W City College member "Maria Gaci" is one of the four winners of the "UPE/ACM Scholarship Award" 2013. The scholarship is awarded by The Executive Council of Upsilon Pi Epsilon (UPE), the Honor Society for Computing Sciences, and the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) for excellence and professional commitment to the computing and information technology field. Congratulations!


ACM-W Europe, the Association for Computing Machinery′s Committee on Women in Computing in Europe are sponsoring a conference specifically for encouraging women to stay in the field. This conference will be held in Manchester, UK, with the motto womENcourage. They invite poster submissions of original work by students (female and male) in all areas of computing and related disciplines.

Support Balkan Conference In Informatics & Pan-Hellenic Conference In Informatics 2013

Summer 2013

University of Sheffield delivered this summer the "Learning & Teaching Strategy 2011-2016" leaflet, aiming to provide impetus and direction for the development of learning and teaching in the period to 2016. This leaflet defines the aspirations, the aims and the priorities of the University. There were three highlights for the faculty of City College, one of which stated: "Computer Science students formed the first European Student Chapter of Assoc. for Computing Machinery - W supporting the engagement of women in computing." We are very grateful for mentioning our chapter in the priorities of the faculty, for the support and the guidance and we hope to contribute in this strategy in the best way.

NetBeans for Beginners


The Seventh Annual Learning & Teaching Conference was held on Wednesday 9th January 2013 at the University of Sheffiled. The title of this Conference was "Embracing Diversity" and its aim was to provide ways for students to both identify and fulfil their potential within the University, since nowadays the variety of students that univesities seek to carter for is more diverse than ever. ACM-W participated by presenting an abstract titled: "Building inclusive learning communities: Aiming to increase the number of women in computer science" (Click to read the abstract).
